Sergeant at Arms- Bob Kirkbride:
Back in the day members of our club that owned family businesses would generally all sit together time after time. Therefore Dave Wesel was fined $1.00 for old times’ sake.
Marietta Sleep Center is oversaturated with patients complaining about not getting enough sleep. After a vigorous investigation the doctors concluded that these events started happening early September of this year which is around the same time Rev. Linda Steelman retired after 22 years. Rev. Steelman was fined $1.00
Dr. Ruud was fined $1.00 for doing a terrific job at Marietta College.
George Broughton was charged $1.00 for turning each location he owns into George Town.
Davis Powers was in the process of issuing Heather Allender a citation for speeding when he asked her for her driver’s license she mistakenly gave him a rectangular compact in which Davis replied “I didn’t know you were a cop too.” Davis was fined $1.00
Our speaker today was Rotary 6690 District Governor Gary Vaughn. He informed us that this is the 66th location he has visited since June of this year. He was very impressed with the strength, loyalty and dedication of our board of directors. There are four clubs celebrating 100 years of service. He stressed the importance of the 125 plus program and his goal for 2020 is to collect $2,000,000.00. Our conference in May will be held at Salt Fork. He feels each organization should get more recognition for their achievements.
An important topic that is very important to District Governor Vaughn is social issues and how we as an organization can help be a solution to many problems our society faces. Human trafficking, drug use/overdose and suicide prevention to name a few.
District Governor Vaughn presented Danielle Bruni with the Rotary Achievement Award for her leadership in the Shelterbox fundraiser that collected over $12,000.00 Danielle was very appreciative of the recognition but stated that this was a group effort and she could not have done it alone therefore she accepted the award on behalf of everyone involved.
President Shawn Taylor thanked District Governor Gary Vaughn for speaking with us today and presented him with our club flag, a bottle of wine from the Marietta Wine Cellar and a copy of the book, The Pioneers by David McCullough. Shawn also thanked George Broughton for the use of his new facility and Boxcar Catering for our meal.
