Program:

The Marietta Fire Department is celebrating their 125th anniversary. Eric Moore and Raleigh Krigbaum shared the past, present and future plans for the Marietta Fire department.

In 1859 one of the worst fires to effect this area triggered the formation of 3 fire companies. They were volunteer based, but began to implement some of the structure and requirements we now see in our fire departments today.

It developed for the next 35 years with the implementation of fire hydrants, alert systems and eventually in 1894 Marietta Fire Department became a professional department. In 1912 the department received its first fire truck, which was replacing horse drawn carriages. A series of fires over the next 60 years continued to change the way fire fighters did their job. Marietta contributed in a big way to the changing of fire codes to promote better public safety after tragedies like the Harmer House fire and a boiler explosion in a church. They went on to explain that the fire department is continuing to grow in what they are trained to handle. It will now be mandatory that they are advanced EMT's, and Hazmat trained.

They are also expecting to upgrade their equipment which will allow them to better serve our community. We are so thankful for the Firefighters and all they do to support our Community.
